Income Tax Preparation
Still time for you last minute fillers. Now we are well into the 2010 tax season. Avoid the cost of income tax preparation by visiting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site (VITA). What is VITA? The Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who cannot afford professional assistance. Volunteers prepare basic tax returns for taxpayers with incomes below $49,000, including the elderly, Limited-English Proficient and people with disabilities.
To find out where the VITA sites are in your area, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 during tax season.
A list of Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites is available by calling 1-800-227-7669 during tax season.
You can also log onto the AARP web site (https://locator.aarp.org/vmis/sites/tax_aide_locator.jsp) and find out where other free tax assistance is offered in your area.
