ColoradoSaves Member Testimony

Excerpts from a speech given by Mable Banks on the benefits of being a member of ColoradoSaves, during an Educational Forum.

Start Early and Stick to it.  It has always been a dream for me to be financially free. When ColoradoSaves gave me the opportunity to work with a financial planner, it was a dream come true. I want to thank Susan O"Grady, my financial planner, for helping me get my financial affairs in order. I have become more disciplined with my spending. I only buy what I need and what I can afford. The actual creation of the budget is easy, but staying within it is a challenge. It is very important to develop the saving habit early, even as early as a high school or college student, and to carry the habit throughout our lives.  When you travel the path of saving early, you accumulate more wealth, and open possibilities that otherwise would never be available.

I pledge

- To spend less than I earn;
- To avoid long-term, high-interest debt;
- To invest in a home, college education, or another appreciating assets; and
- To prepare for retirement.

 
Braderick Jones, a mechanic in Wisconsin, had always lived paycheck to paycheck, never developing a budget or a savings account. He and his family had to borrow money frequently just to pay the bills. "I never really thought about budgeting money. We never accumulated any savings. Anytime anything unexpected happened, my family had to borrow money," Jones said. All this changed when he received a Wisconsin Saves flyer at his housing complex. Read his story.

America Saves Week in Colorado

ColoradoSaves will be holding our 1st Annual Community Assets Fair during America Saves Week.

In these difficult economic times we could all use a little help.  Your assets are not only financial resources, but health, education, and housing.  Now, more than ever, it is important to be aware of ALL the community resources available to help you build your assets.

The Community Assets Fair will be a fun and informative day open to the public free of charge.  There will be a variety of workshops and services available and exciting raffle prizes for the whole family!

This is a free event for the public - registration not required to attend.
